The Meta-Era
New Technologies are currently having a huge impact on our lives. Obviously that’s no more a secret for anyone except if you live in a remote cave or you don’t have access to real information. And even in these cases, you might have felt the vibes in the air.
About forty years ago when the revolution of personal computers arose with the introduction of three preassembled mass-produced personal computers with the incredible touch of Steve Jobs, nobody knew we would be living in a world just as the one we have today. And yet, here we are at the core of one of the most unimaginable revolutions.
Today we have the possibility to carry in our hands all the information in the world. We can have access to all the knowledge of mankind in couple of clicks. The job market has embraced the craziest change in most developed countries and some others. We don’t always need to go to an office to work anymore. With the rise of AI (artificial intelligence) and other technologies one can be in a bedroom and still have the feeling to be at office with co-workers.
And if you still wonder what the metaverse is, it can be simply seen as a merging of virtual, augmented, and physical reality that blurs the line between your interactions online and in real life. It is a virtual world where people can socialize, work and play using their avatars. The term metaverse was coined in Neal Stephenson’s 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash, where humans, as avatars, interact with each other and software agents, in a three-dimensional virtual space that uses the metaphor of the real world. That’s undoubtedly what the world is growing into. Even though it is said that it might take 4-5 years to be developed, a crude version of it already exists in VR (Virtual Reality). The NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens), the Cryptocurrencies are some of the assets that people will need to afford life in the metaverse. And of course virtual reality headsets are the door-keys to access the different metaverses that will be developed over time.
We have become amazed witnesses of a boundless world. Still, there are dangers to this new world. We have come to a time in history when the information you produce online is more valuable than yourself. They call it the data era. The other thing is that reality wont really matter anymore because people will be living in a simulation. It’s the metaverse era. Of course it sounds a bit threatening when you see things from a personal perspective. But it’s at the core of the business of most tech-companies. Thats exactly why the meta-era is the coming new reality. Its the future of the internet even though it represents a threat to social life.
